- Open “Test token” above. If you see
"is_valid":false, the token is dead → follow step 2 below. - Generate a permanent System-User token.
Open business.facebook.com → Settings → System Users,
add a system user (Admin), then Generate New Token with
both scopes:
whatsapp_business_messagingandwhatsapp_business_management. Copy it — it’s shown only once. - Assign the system user to the WABA that owns
whatsapp_phone_number_id. In Business Settings → System Users → Assign Assets, pick the WhatsApp Account and grant “Full control”. - Verify WHATSAPP_PHONE_NUMBER_ID in Meta → WhatsApp → API Setup. It must be the numeric Phone Number ID (a long number), NOT the phone number itself and NOT the WABA ID.
- Save in .env:
WHATSAPP_ACCESS_TOKEN=EAA…andWHATSAPP_PHONE_NUMBER_ID=123…. Reload this page. - Message window. Fresh business phone numbers can only free-form-text
recipients who messaged the WABA within the last 24 h. Ask
+60124062221to send “hi” to your business number first, or make sureWHATSAPP_TEMPLATE_NAMEpoints to an approved template.
